My Top 40 Disney Songs of All Time (40-21)

Gee-whiz! Hello, boys and girls! (Too cheesey? Yeah I think so...)

Good evening, blog-readers. Firstly (and I've never actually said this yet) thank you for reading this! I'm surprised at the number of page views I've had and some of the great feedback I've had for my Big Brother/Disney/American Horror Story/general rambling. I applaud you for clicking the link.

So, as a lot of people have probably established by now, Disney is my life. Everything about it makes me happy - and one of the main factors of Disney that everybody loves is the music. Whether it's catchy, whether it's corny or whether it makes you cry, a lot of them are awesome. So I've whittled it down to a Top 40 - quite difficult. I've included a video of the song, just in case you've never heard the song (what is wrong with you people?)

Celebrity Big Brother 2015: Katie Price is the winner? Really?

Inspirational? Yeah, right.

Now, I know it's incredibly sad to rant about Celebrity Big Brother because... well it's nothing to get angry about. But this year, I've feel like they've mugged off every viewer, and I'm glad I didn't spend any money on voting.

The woman you see above entered the house 10 days later than everyone else. A lot of housemates used this against her when she was crowned the winner, saying it was unfair because she didn't experience "the tension". To be honest, the whole series was tense. I don't think there was ever a calm moment or a day without an argument. So no, I don't think that was Katie Price's fault... but did she really deserve to win or the bigger question... did she ACTUALLY win?

Now the problem with me is that I always look way too much into everything. I don't know what Katie Price is like but from what I've seen from the media, she is fame-hungry, she is ALWAYS in the Sun newspaper. She is a rich dumbass, basically. But is she that dumb? My verdict is that she only went in the Big Brother house on agreement that she'd win. Rumour has it that her pay was the highest in Celebrity Big Brother history. 

Also, if you look at Twitter and everything, Katie Price was not the favourite. Controversial Katie Hopkins was the hot favourite all through the series, with Keith Chegwin and Michelle Visage (my personal favourite) all having higher odds than Katie Price. And fans seemed a little shocked and angered when Katie Price won. 

So it all seems odd. The fact that all Katie Price did in there was lie about, talking really graphically about her sexual encounters and all the men in her life (I feel sorry for her kids). So yeah, she's such an inspiration. 

Anyway, rant over.

This series was one of the most controversial of all time and the arguments got a little boring at the end of it. Bring on summer!

"American Horror Story: Freak Show": The top 10 moments

So, the latest instalment of "American Horror Story" has come to an end - booooooooo! I'm actually pretty gutted, because (and this is a very unpopular opinion) "Freak Show" is my personal favourite of them all. I LOVED the circus theme, I LOVED the new cast members and this season never failed to scare me - Exhibit A: Twisty the Clown. Still makes me shiver. So here are my top ten moments of the series (although, it was hard to whittle it down to ten):- 

10. The ghost of Edward Mordrake 

One of the main storylines from this series was the legend of Edward Mordrake. Now, apparently this is a real thing but I've never heard of it. Edward Mordrake is a man with a face on the back of his head (COUGH COUGH HARRY POTTER) who apparently went crazy at a freak show and killed all of his fellow freaks. Whenever any freak performs on Halloween night, Edward Mordrake visits them and potentially kills them and makes him join his ghost freak tribe thingy. Sounds weird, but it was particularly creepy because of the excellent Wes Bentley (plays Seneca Crane in The Hunger Games) and the mysterious green fog that appeared whenever he did. Only bad thing about him was that he killed Twisty the Clown, one of the best characters in American Horror Story history.

9. Queen Jessica Lange as Elsa Mars

Now, don't get me wrong, Jessica Lange IS and ALWAYS WILL BE American Horror Story. I have no idea what the next series will be like without her. However, this year, I feel like Elsa Mars was her least appealing character. She was fabulous (that Lana Del Rey cover) but I don't know. It just didn't really do a lot for me. The only reason she's number nine is because of Jessica Lange - one of the best, most underrated actresses of all time. Just I think a lot of American Horror Story fans will agree that Fiona Goode, Sister Jude and Constance were much better characters. 

8. Ryan Murphy brings in a bit of "Glee"

Oh, Ryan. If anyone watched "American Horror Story" and "Glee", they would not think it would have been written by the same person. But this season, it got a little bit clearer. From the first episode, there's been random little musical numbers throughout which I have loved (mostly David Bowie songs) e.g. "Life on Mars" and "Heroes", the latter making a perfect final scene. However, my personal favourite was Elsa's Halloween performance "Gods and Monsters" by Lana Del Rey. These songs took many AHS fans back to the legendary moment of "The Name Game" in Season 2. 

7. Sarah Paulson's happy ending (again)


For some reason, and nobody has ANY idea why, Sarah Paulson's character ALWAYS has a happy ending. In "Murder House", she survives. In "Asylum", she's the main character - who survives. In "Coven", she becomes the Supreme witch. And same goes for "Freak Show". In fact, her two-headed character Bette and Dot found love with Evan Peters' character and was pregnant at the end of the series - but it's not always a smooth path for Sarah, oh no. For example, being blinded with acid and being tortured in an asylum for being a lesbian. However, Bette and Dot wasn't Sarah's best role but they were pretty amazing. I particularly loved how their extremely different personalities worked so well together - the dumb dreamer and the feisty, upfront one.

6. Evan Peters (of course)


Oh Evan. He seems to get more and more lovely every series. After being particularly overlooked in "Coven" (he only had like eight lines in the whole thing), Jimmy Darling was one of Evan's finest characters. And he lived happily ever after with Bette and Dot - yaaaaay! He was most definitely the hero of "Freak Show". Bravo to you Mr Peters, and those muscles.

5. Dandy Mott (and his buttocks)


And here is the series psycho. We've had Rubber Man, Bloody Face, Papa Legba and now we have Dandy Mott. The only difference is that the Freak Show serial killer is slightly gorgeous. Despite the fact he's lying in a bath in his mother's blood in this photo, something about him is extremely dishy. Dandy is one of my favourite American Horror Story antagonists, played brilliantly by Finn Wittrock. And I thank you especially for that little glimpse of your bare bottom that we got. Definitely one of my highlights (I regret nothing).

4. The most terrifying clown EVER. (Continue at your risk)


Twisty. The. Clown. One thing that TERRIFIED all American Horror Story fans and people everywhere. So much so that the Clowns of the USA group sued American Horror Story for reinforcing a fear of clowns. For me, Twisty's storyline was the most powerful throughout the whole series. In the episode where it describes his life story and how he was incorrectly framed for a crime was quite moving, despite the fact he is ABSOLUTELY SHITTING-MY-PANTS SCARY. However, this makes him one of the most memorable characters and I'm actually quite gutted that he was only in it for four episodes.

3. Neil Patrick Harris saves the series


I LOVE Neil Patrick Harris. And just when the series got a teeny weeny bit boring, he comes in and saves the day. He played Chester Creb, a former soldier turned magician who came back from the war with a plate on his head. His only friend after killing his wife is a creepy ventriloquist doll (why do they do this to us?!) who he believes killed his wife. After a brief love affair with Bette and Dot and a gruesome murder of Emma Roberts, he flees. But in those two episodes, he really stood out as one of the highlights of this series. His husband David Burtka also played Jessica Lange's future husband in the finale, so the pair just got even cuter by working together on this. Bring on the Oscars.

2. Angela. Fucking. Bassett.

One of the best American Horror Story decisions since the show began was hiring this goddess. Miss Angela Bassett. She stole the series last year as the Voodoo Queen Marie Leveau and for me, she stole it this year as the three-breasted Desiree Dupree. She was feisty, empowered and she was one of the only survivors of the series, after hiding from Dandy and we see her in the finale married with kids. She truly was incredible in this series, and I'm really surprised no awards came her way. Hats off to you, Angela. I hope she returns for Season Five. 

1. American Horror Story IS linked!!! 


It was what we've always been waiting for. Every series is completely different, but Ryan Murphy decided to link this one with previous series' and the results didn't disappoint. In the episode "Orphans", we saw Pepper's story - how she ended up in Briarcliff Manor (the asylum in the second series) and it saw the magnificent return of Lily Rabe, who was noticeably missed throughout Freak Show. Another way it linked to Asylum was with Dr Hans Gruper and how he tortured Elsa's old flame Massimo. Dr Hans Gruper was the doctor played by James Cromwell. I don't know about anyone else but when these episodes aired, I screamed with excitement (well not literally, but in my head). I've been waiting four years for links between them and I got what I wanted - hurrah!

So now the theories begin as we wait for the next series... Rumours are that it's something to do with top hats? Or space? That would be interesting...

Zero to Heroine! 26 leading ladies of Disney ranked from most pathetic to most empowering.

As you've probably guessed by now, I. LOVE. Disney. ESPECIALLY the women of Disney. Some of them are pretty annoying and forgettable and let's face it, pathetic. But others are just plain badass. 

For an A Level project last year, I wrote a 3,000 word essay on Disney's representation of women and it's really clear that over time since Disney's first leading lady, Snow White, in 1937, princesses are represented more as a "strong independent woman" figure in recent years, as opposed to a ditzy damsel in distress who waits passively for a prince to come and kiss her...

On that note, let's see who's at the bottom of our badass Disney lady scale...

26 + 25. Snow White and Aurora

Now these two ladies are the definition of "Disney princess". However, despite how well-known they are, they're not very ballsy are they? Imagine Snow White and the Seven Dwarves if Snow White could fend for herself - she wouldn't collapse in forests crying, she wouldn't need to live with seven men, and she wouldn't be stupid enough to eat an apple off some crazy and creepy old lady so that she has to be saved by her prince. And as for Aurora, well, she doesn't really do a lot, and when she does she spikes her finger and dies, and once again, has to be saved. So, at the bottom of the pack are these two.

24. Lady

Again, doesn't really fend for herself very much. Only reason she's above Snow White and Aurora is because dogs are quite feisty.

23. Wendy

She had potential to be awesome - but followed Peter like a little puppy.

22. Maid Marian

Again, she's just a bit... Meh.

21. Cinderella

Cinderella is one of the most badass out of the traditional Disney princesses despite being fairly low - she does run away from the Prince at the ball and she does have a lot of optimism.

20. Alice

Still very ditzy but she taught us it was amazing to live in a dream world.

19. Rapunzel 

I do feel quite bad for putting her this low... But in my opinion, there's a lot more badass leading ladies than poor Rapunzel. But she does have those frying pan techniques AND runs away from her "mother".

18. Lilo

One of the only ladies not to end up with a man (even though she is like 12). Little Lilo is disobedient, sassy and will stop at nothing to get what she wants!

17. Ariel

Hannah, if you're reading this, please don't kill me. To be honest, the only reason she got this far was because of the second film, when she becomes a really cool mum. But in the first film, she gives up her voice to be with a man and (again) falls for a creepy purple woman's words. 

16. Esmeralda

Words aren't even needed for this one. Just look at that picture. Look at that tambourine. Queen. of. Sass.

15. Jasmine

Two words - Pet. Tiger.

14. Elizabeth Swann

Our first live action leading lady! Bet you all forgot about her! She goes from a posh little rich girl to a swashbuckling pirate in three films. Can't really get more feisty than that.

13. Anna

Anna is a fearless optimist - she always looks at the good side of things and people AND she travels in the ice to save her sister and then forgives her when she freezes her heart. 

12. Belle

Again, I feel quite bad for putting one of my favourites so low. But it's Belle's time. She's shown as one of the first intelligent Disney princesses and she doesn't judge her men on looks. 

11. Tiana

Just short of the top ten is the leading lady of "The Princess and the Frog". She is intent on achieving her dreams of owning her own restaurant (obviously the new age princess dream).

10. Jessie

Disney's biggest tomboy. She's a feisty redhead who doesn't have a love interest until the third film - I'm afraid that's what let you down!

9. Megara

Again, no words are needed, just a picture defining what Meg stands for.

8. Nala

She's queen of the lions. Duh?

7. Jane

She's not afraid to make a fool of herself - and that first encounter with Tarzan just sums her up.

6. Elastigirl/Helen Parr

She is a mum. Who is also a superhero.

5. Mary Poppins

Practically perfect in every way. And she's flying via umbrella.

4. Pocahontas 

She's my favourite Disney princess. She's a bit of a daredevil, and that hair is just flawless.

3. Merida

Okay, so the whole idea of Brave was to show an empowering young princess. And she certainly did the job. She puts her family first, she has no love interest AND she's fabulous with a bow and arrow!

2. Mulan 

Just missing out on the top spot is Mulan - she pretends to be a man in order to follow her dreams. You can't get any more gutsy than that... Or can you? Number one is...

1. Queen Elsa 


Okay, so I know this is a little cliche, but after a lot of deliberation, I really think Elsa is the most empowering Disney female. Not only is she a fabulous ice queen who runs away from her palace, it appears she has no interest in a man to look after her, and "Let it Go" is one of the most empowering songs of all time..

So there we have it. Hope you enjoyed my little countdown. Might do a villain one next time... Hmm...

Celebrity Big Brother 2015: Goodbye, Alicia!

A glamour model who has had WAY too much plastic surgery and has only just learnt her alphabet...

So, Alicia was the second housemate to be voted out. To be honest, I am a little bit surprised as Nadia was the odds-on favourite to be evicted, but then again, Alicia's time came.

Nobody likes a follower. Alicia latched onto Perez after him and Katie Hopkins had loads of arguments, and when Alicia tried to argue with her, it was quite embarrassing and awkward to watch.

And she definitely didn't help herself when she told Katie Hopkins (of all people) that she only feeds her children vegetables and that she homeschools her children, and is teaching herself at the time. "I only learned my alphabet and shapes last year"

ARE YOU FOR REAL.

I did think at some points that the public might vote for her as it appeared that the other girls in the house were ganging up on her - but meh. Obviously not.

So yeah, there's not a lot I can say about Alicia - she's just a bit boring. She did absolutely nothing for me - I think if I was in the house with her, I'd avoid her as much as I could. She does seem nice, but all of our conversations would be awkward and uncomfortable.

On we go, and Alicia's presence in the house will inevitably be forgotten immediately.

Walt Disney World Resort: "The Great Movie Ride"

Good afternoon! I must say I am VERY excited at this news that I have just seen today.

Now, if you have been to Orlando, and in particular Walt Disney World, then I very much hope that you are familiar with the amazingness that is "The Great Movie Ride".

If you have been to Walt Disney World and are sat there thinking "The Great Movie what?", be ashamed. If you've never been, then you're forgiven, because.. well that's just fair enough. It's not everyone's cup of tea.

Anyway, just a quick summary of what it actually is. "The Great Movie Ride" is the ride through the greatest movies of all time - pretty self explanatory. However, if you think you're just going to be sat there on a moving vehicle watching different clips of movies, think again. You will be accompanied by a tour guide as you delve into dazzling film sets, and experience audio-animatronic figures who look scarily like the best known actors of all time. So, that's pretty much it. Bright lights, big stars, legendary films that you're bound to recognise (think Casablanca, Tarzan, Mary Poppins, Alien, Indiana Jones and my personal highlight of the ride, The Wizard of Oz) and a tour guide who is practically awesome. And to top it all off, you literally feel like you're in a movie as the ride becomes a show and you watch your tour guide being involved in a gun fight and then having your vehicle being taken over by a vicious gangster (where else would any of this sound sane if it wasn't Disney World?) 

However, the best part of the whole ride is the film montage at the end of the ride.

Sit back, relax and enjoy some of the most famous movie clips of ALL time. 

So Disney have just announced that they have teamed up with Turner Classic Movies to change and update the ride. I LOVE this ride, and it's my favourite thing in the whole of America, but if anything it is a little bit outdated. With all the Disney World updates being made e.g. Avatar Land in Animal Kingdom, the Frozen expansion in Epcot, Star Wars Land rumours etc., it would look very old. But maybe that's what makes it so traditional. I am excited for the updates, but I don't want it to be ruined. My heart would break into a thousand pieces.

Let's hope they include references to recent blockbusters e.g. Harry Potter, Titanic, Avatar or maybe as it's in Disney World, maybe we can get a glimpse of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, The Lion King... the list goes on.

Bring on Spring 2015. Disney will be announcing more details of the update soon. But in the meantime, if you haven't experienced The Great Movie Ride (and I feel sorry for you), here's a complete journey through... It's quite long but just skip through. Trust me, it's worth seeing, especially if you're a fellow film buff.
